How it works: Project NOMAD

Project NOMAD is free, open-source software that turns a computer into an offline library. We install it on the mini computer for you, so it is ready when you open the box.

  • Offline reference library: Wikipedia, textbooks and how-to guides stored on the machine.
  • First aid and medical information: medical references and first-aid guides you can look up at any hour, even with no signal and no doctor nearby.
  • Offline maps: view maps with no connection.
  • Education platform: K-12 education materials, including Khan Academy courses, so kids can keep learning when school or the internet is out.
  • Your own manuals: upload the product manuals and guides for equipment you already own (generators, appliances, tools, radios and more). They are stored on the computer and searchable, and the optional AI assistant can answer questions from them.
  • AI assistant (optional): a local assistant that runs on your own hardware, no internet required.
  • Runs without the internet: once it's set up, it keeps working when the network doesn't.

Project NOMAD is a separate, free open-source project and is not affiliated with Monadnock Prepping. It is included here as installed software.
